Hello! I’m Rachelle — the human behind Via Girasole.
Via Girasole translates loosely from Italian to “the way of the sunflower”.
If the sun is out, chances are I’ve wandered outside to find it — a bit like the flower!
I’ve always taken photos, maybe a little obsessively, as a way of holding onto moments. But at some point, photos didn’t feel like enough on their own. I wanted a way to remember how places felt, not just how they looked. This online journal grew out of that: a place to bring my photography and words together.
Travel has been part of my identity for as long as I can remember. My parents always had a curiosity for the world and brought us along with them.
I tend to seek out a certain kind of trip - places that feel off the beaten path, and moments that can be experienced without the presence of crowds. It’s often the quieter, more human moments that stay with me the longest: conversations, shared meals, and small, local interactions.
I'm also the kind of person who plans around the weather, not just to feel the warmth of the sun on my face, but because few things are more frustrating to me than a view hidden behind clouds. Of course, great weather often coincides with peak travel seasons, so I’m still learning how to strike a balance between the two.
Multi-day trekking has become my preferred way of being outdoors, especially when discovering somewhere new. It’s given me a different way of moving through places, one that feels more intentional and connected to nature. These days, at least once a year, you’ll find me on a trail with my tent and backpack on the hunt for incredible landscapes.
